Your Business Should Give You More Choice

A few years ago, it was popular to be busy. To be the one that needed to schedule catchups with friends years in advance, to always be on your phone, and to always be out and doing something.

It was like the adult version of the popular kids in school. Somehow the busier you were, the more people assumed you were successful, loving life, and were lucky.

Then came the almost global shift of people realising that being busy actually sucked. And so came the new trend of slow living. Choosing where you want to spend your time, who you want to spend it with, and leaning into the “being bored” way of life.

What we have noticed though, is that actually never truly happened in the business world. Whether you work for someone else, or have your own business, that change did not, and has not, shifted.

Which is wild to think that humans have chosen to continue to run on empty during those 9-5, Monday to Friday periods, and then “relax” (a.k.a. recover from the weeks burnout) in their own personal time.

It’s this shift within business that is at the core of Silk and Sunsets; to help people achieve more choice with where their time is spent.

That’s not to say that there isn’t dedication, work and hours required, but there is a reason the saying Work smarter not harder exists. The aim is to give you more, not your business or work-life more than what you give yourself.

The Power of Choice

How many people have you heard say that they started their business to get more freedom and time? Perhaps you’re the one that said this, but a few years into your business and you’re wondering if working for someone else was less stressful and simply easier?

This is where we work with businesses and individuals in high-demanding roles, to bring in more choice. Not just in the short term but how that can be sustained into the future while still achieving your goals - whether that’s more time with the family, more holidays and getaways each year, or maybe its a hobby you really wish you can spend more time doing.

Whatever your goal is and was before setting out on your current work-path, it all comes back to choice of time.

We are also realistic in how that looks. You can’t just wish for a change - change needs action. What that action does, however, is set that wishful change in motion and moves you one chess piece closer to your choice of time.

Our Lessons

The two of us behind Silk and Sunsets, Ann-Marie and Lisa, have spent decades working for others and building our own businesses, so this all comes from a lot of lessons learnt and mostly, hard lessons. The beauty is in just that though - a lesson was taught at every stage, every decision and every “wrong” path.

Which then led us to pausing and questioning ourselves and that strong undertow of being busy, that never truly left the work-side of our lives.

Why were we still “hoping next year is better” when we weren’t making changes ourselves to make that happen. Why did every step forward in our businesses, result in a step back in our choices, when the goal at the start was the opposite?

So. We changed that. We reversed those groundhog-feeling years and began to put in motion what we originally started a business to achieve; more choice of where our time was spent.

Because; what’s the point in having goals if your business or career choices aren’t driving you towards them? What’s the point if they are barriers and the root cause of you not spending quality time with your family, for you not travelling to those bucketlist places, or for you not spending time enjoying a hobby.

Work With Us

If this sounds like you, and you want to break the hamster wheel, we offer many ways to work with us.

Whether that’s working with Ann-Marie in an online guidance session, or an in-person energy session, to hear what you might not want to hear, but need to. Or it’s with both of us through strategic business planning and setting your business up for success, so you can truly reap those benefits.
